FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bluffton University baseball team saw its school-record tying 4-0 start come to an end at the hands of Rockford College on Tuesday, March 7. The Regents piled up six runs in the seventh inning en route to the 8-2 victory at Terry Park. Bluffton stands 4-1 on the season while Rockford is 5-2.

Rockford put together four hits for two runs in the home half of the fourth for the first scores of the game. Bluffton cut the deficit to one in the sixth when Luke Kail (Waynesfield/Sandy Valley) drew a bases loaded walk. An RBI double by Blake Fox (Berne. Ind./South Adams) an inning later made it 2-2 in the middle of the seventh.

The knotted score didn't last long, however, as Rockford took advantage of four walks, a hit batter and a Bluffton error to paste six runs on the board in the bottom of the frame despite just two hits. When the dust settled, the score was 8-2 and the Beavers had used four different hurlers to record three outs.

Fox paced the Bluffton offense with three hits, while fellow senior Clayton Siders (Delaware/Worthington Christian) finished 2-of-5 with a run scored. Jaylen Von Sossan (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in six innings of work. He fanned eight and walked four.

Bluffton will look for win number five when the Beavers take on Pitt-Bradford at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8. That contest is slated for PDC 3 in Fort Myers.
