Bluffton American Legion commemorates Four Chaplains Sunday at First United Methodist

In commemoration of the sacrifice of four armed forces Chaplains during World War II, The American Legion will observe Religious Emphasis Week, Feb. 1 to Feb. 7, according to Don Rock, chaplain of Bluffton Post 382.

The Bluffton American Legion members will attend the 10:30 a.m. service at First United Methodist  Church, Sunday, Feb. 1. All veterans and their spouses are welcome to attend.

Isaac Little has second highest GPA on Cincinnati football team

Isaac Little, freshman outside liinebacker on the University of Cincinnati's football team, achieved the second highest GPA on the football team this fall.

Little, a Bluffton High School grad and standouting Pirate athlete, achieved a 3.938 grade point average.

OMG - Ada's on the NY Times page 1...and Fox News...and it's all about "De-flate Gate"

Deflate-gate.

Who in Bluffton isn't familar with this new national buzz word. It involves NLF football, the New England Patriots, and yes...Ada, Ohio. The Super Bowl footballs are made in Ada.

Ada and deflate-gate made page 1 of the New York Times on Jan. 21. And on Jan. 26 Ada is a feature on Fox News.

The New York Times story and video features Jane Hesler, retired Wilson Factory employee, who talks about making footballs.

Bluffton library board announces meeting schedule

The Board of Trustees of Bluffton Public Library has announced its meeting schedule for 2015. Meetings will be held the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the library's Riley Board Room at 145 South Main St., Bluffton. No meetings will take place in July or December.

Board members are Elizabeth Hostetler, president; Bob Beer, vice president; Carrie Phillips, secretary;  Amy Lehman-Mikesell, Robert Scott, Emily VonStein, and Nancy Yeager.

Board meetings are open to the public.

Book signing for Lima author January 31 at Book ReViews

A book signing featuring Peggy Erhart, author of "Through My Grandmother’s Eyes" will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Book ReViews, Main St., Bluffton.

Erhart's book tells the life of her grandmother beginning with her wedding in 1896. Events are viewed through the vantage points of historical events and societal norms of the eras covering the late1800s through 1947. Emphasis is placed on the family’s German Catholic heritage common throughout the area and time.

PTO's Saturday night Bakery Bingo is the hottest thing in town

It's the hottest thing in Bluffton's coldest month. It's Bluffton Elementary PTO Bakery Bingo and its Saturday, Jan. 31.

This year's event, open to the public, is from 6 to 8 p.m. in the middle school cafetorium. Doors open at 5 p.m.

A concession stand is available, which offers everything from chicken sandwiches, pretzels with cheese, and other items, including Luke's Pizza and Common Grounds coffee.

Bingo cards are 12 for $1. Winners have your choice of any  donated baked goods.
