Volleyball goes 3-0 at Bluffton Fall Classic

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Beaver volleyball team went undefeated during the Bluffton University’ Fall Classic, dropping just one set all weekend. The Beavers picked up wins against Allegheny College (25-13, 25-19, 22-25, 25-11) and Marietta College (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) on Saturday, Sept. 16. Bluffton improved to 7-5 thanks to the three victories over the weekend.

In the first match against Allegheny, junior Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) pounded 22 kills, breaking her career high for the second time in as many days! She tallied a .310 hitting percentage, having just four errors in the four sets. Freshman Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) contributed 12 kills with a .258 hitting percentage.

Three Beavers collected double-digit dig totals. Senior Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) led the way with 24 digs while Martini and Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) scooped up 11 apiece. Weisgarber distributed a team-high 40 assists and fired four aces. Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/River View) was in on four blocks for the victors.

The Beavers finished off the weekend with a quick sweep of the Pioneers. Weisgarber finished with 22 assists, six kills, and 13 digs. Martini hammered a team-high 15 kills, while Mohler tallied a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore Carly Lester (Chesapeake) got it done with four blocks against the Pioneers. Fall Classic MVP Bethany Martini was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Weisgarber and Mohler.

Bluffton is off until next Friday, Sept. 22, when they head to Baldwin Wallace for OAC/HCAC Crossover. The Beavers open with John Carroll at 2 p.m.
