Dr. Avila, M.D., was an anesthesiologist at Bluffton Hospital

James Ybanez Avila M.D., 65, died November 26, 2017 at his residence in Bluffton.  James was born May 3, 1952, in Cebu City, Philippines, to the late Nemesio and Mary (Ybanez) Avila.  On Aug. 20, 2004 he married Rebecca Utt and she survives.

James was an anesthesiologist at Bluffton Hospital, New Horizons Surgery Center in Marion and Shelby Hospital. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bluffton and enjoyed golfing, growing roses and spending time with his family.  

Survivors also include two sons, James (Ariah) Avila of Mansfield, Brian Avila of Columbus; two daughters, Melanie (Quinn) Bradley of Columbus, Raychel Avila of Bluffton; two brothers, Edward (Elna) Avila of California, George Avila of Manila, Philippines; a sister, Millie Avila of Cebu City, Philippines; three grandchildren, Azaria Avila, Zoren Avila, and Irie Bradley; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bluffton.  Father John Stites officiating.  Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton where a rosary service will take place at 8 p.m. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice.
