Bluffton Hospital benefits from BVH's Top 100 Award

The award is a "big deal" for both hospitals

“We have a good story to tell,” said Scott Malaney, president and CEO of Blanchard Valley Health Systems.

Bluffton Hospital, as part of the BVHS, is part of that “good story.”

IBM Watson Health TM recently named Blanchard Valley Hospital one of the 100 Top Hospitals. This is the sixth time Blanchard Valley Hospital received this recognition.

While Bluffton was not part of this national study, the implications are positive for Bluffton.

In an interview with the Icon, Malaney listed many ways that Bluffton benefits from rubbing shoulders with its bigger brother, starting with The Women’s Center Concept, Pelvic Pain Center, plus BVHS’s recent investments in Bluffton’s OB and ER departments.

Malaney added that the award is a big deal for both hospitals.  Among the key performance measures on which Blanchard Valley Hospital continues as a Top 100 Hospital follow:

• Better survival rates
• Fewer complications and infections
• Shorter length of stay
• Shorter emergency department wait times
• Lower inpatient expenses
• Higher profit overall margins
• Higher patient satisfaction

Reflecting further, Malaney said, “We want people to trust us. Our board sets corporate goals and we have incentives to keep getting better.”

He added - concerning Bluffton Hospital - that in 1995, when Bluffton Community Hospital became part of the BVHS it was a commitment of continued health care in Bluffton.

The Top 100 recognition “affirms efforts to ensure our patients receive the right care, in the right place at the right time,” said Malaney.  He adding that commitment is also for the Bluffton Hospital.
