Harold Eugene von Stein was a member of the Hancock County Ag hall of fame

A life-long farmer, he served on many agriculture-related boards

Harold Eugene von Stein, 82, of Jenera, Ohio, died on May 9, 2018, at 9:05 a.m. at his residence.

He was born on April 15, 1936, to the late Harley and Frieda (Marquart) von Stein. On Feb.23, 1958, he married Deloros Mae Bormuth at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage, and she survives in rural Jenera.

He is also survived by sons Dean (Nicki) of Jenera and Dennis (Monica) of Rawson, as well as grandchildren Marlene (B.J.) Eick, Craig (Emily) von Stein and their daughter Kendra, Brent (Alexis) von Stein and their son Stanley, Miles
(Melissa) von Stein and their daughter Samantha, Caleb (Carlie) von Stein,
and Aubry von Stein. He is also survived by his sister Jean Ann (Marvin) Ritter.

Harold was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jenera having been baptized on May 24, 1936 and confirmed on May 14, 1950. He had served as a Trustee of the church.

He was a 1954 graduate of Cory-Rawson High School. He was a lifelong livestock and grain farmer having received the Hancock County Pork Promoter Award in 1995 and the Hancock County Cattleman of the Year Award in 2000.

In 2013, he and his wife were inducted into the Hancock Coounty Agricultural Hall of Fame.  He worked at the former Producers Livestock Association sale barn in Findlay for many years, served on Producers Livestock Association’s advisory board for Ohio and Indiana, served on the board of the former Jenera Co-op Association, and was a 4-H advisor. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, with Pastor Matt Nowak officiating.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m., Monday, May 14, at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
