Alice Winegardner was a 1949 LaFayette-Jackson High School graduate

Alice M. Winegardner, 88, died on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 10:30 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on Sept. 12,1930, in Van Wert to the late Lloyd and Pearl (Beam) Haviland. On April 23, 1950, Alice married Kenneth O. Winegardner and they were one month shy of their 60th wedding anniversary when he preceded her in death on March 23, 2010.

Alice worked at Adon Studio, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company in Lima, The Fertilizer Plant in Harrod, did  housework and home health care.

She was a homemaker and farm wife.  She lived on a dairy farm, which is now Colonial Hills Golf Course.  She then moved and raised beef cattle with her husband near Harrod.  She was a member of the Harrod United Methodist Church, Harrod, and active in the United Methodist Women.  

Alice enjoyed doing family history.  She was a member of the Farm Bureau Council #18 for over 55 years.  She was in the first grade when they opened the Bath School and she graduated in 1949 from LaFayette-Jackson School.

Surviving are two sons, Lyle (Carol) Winegardner and Kent (Anne) Winegardner, both of Harrod; a daughter, Nancy (Steve) Ackerman of LaFayette; seven grandchildren, Laurie (Bill Furry) Long, Chad (Cathy) Long, Lisa (Kevin) Closson, Allison (Chad) Gay , Jodi (Brad) Culbertson, Miranda Winegardner, and Kendell (Ashley) Winegardner ;14 great grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Hadding of Georgia. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Haviland, and Earl McMillen; and one sister, Mary Fruchey.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Charles Fuerstenau and Deacon J. Michael Hood officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until the time of the service on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Harrod United Methodist Church and/or the Harrod Fire and Rescue Squad.
