Girls' tennis: Bluffton defeats Kenton 4-1

Number 1 singles Erin Hotmire improves to 2-1

KENTON - The Bluffton girls tennis team won its first match of the season convincingly at Kenton Thursday by a 4-1 score.

The victory lifted the Lady Pirate record to 1-2. All four Bluffton victories came in straight sets, including wins in all three singles matches.

Senior Erin Hotmire improved her record to 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles over Kenton's Mykaela Schriber.

Bluffton junior Olivia Barnes defeated Wildcat Lilly Osborn 6-3, 7-5 at second singles. Pirate junior Julia Smallcomb also earned her first win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kenton's Grace Collins at third singles.

The Pirate duo of sophomores Ellie Nickel and Libby Frazier notched their first victory of 2019 with a 6-4, 6-0 win at second doubles.

Pirates Pearl Lewandowski and Ellison Pugsley narrowly lost in a third-set tiebreaker 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) at number one doubles to the Wildcat tandem of Kayce Sherman and Samantha Love.
