Friends of the Bluffton Public Library donated over $3,700 last year

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library group have donated over $3,700 for library programs, needs and projects this past year.

The Friends of the Library is a service organization, run by volunteers, whose main goal is to raise money for programs that can no longer be funded by the library board, due to cuts in state funding. Programs include early literacy; summer reading, youth and adult programs; outreach and staff development.

“Remember, good libraries are important to good communities,” said Olwen Pritchard, membership coordinator of the group. If you would like to support or join the Friends of the Library, membership is $5 for the year. Additional donations are welcome.

The Friends of the Library holds four fundraisers throughout the year:

  • Spring Book Sale – May 6-9
  • New this year: Chicken barbecue – June 1
  • Tea party – September 17
  • Fall Book Sale – date to be determined

“The Friends are planning to fund several special projects for the library. These projects will both expand and update the services the library provides and the community so desperately needs. Please consider supporting the Friends of the Library,” said Deb Beer, president.

Current board members are:
Deb Beer – president
Bruce Chesser – vice president
Sharon Hamilton – secretary
Linda Nelson – treasurer
Olwen Pritchard – membership coordinator
Members: Elaine Harris, Jim Schaffer, Mark Slaughter, Judy Diller, Heidron Awad
