Smile, Santa!

Some people want their photo taken with Santa; others just want a picture of the real deal. Whatever you want, Saturday morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Santa will be at the Shannon Theatre. Greg's Pharmacy will take complimentary photos of all the kids who sit on Santa's lap. The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce brings Santa to town. This snapshot took place on Nov. 23 during Santa's visit to Common Grounds.

"Gene" Zimmerly had retired after working 40 years with Allen County Engineer's Office

Glenn Eugene "Gene" Zimmerly, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at 1:05 a.m. at Richland Manor, Bluffton, Ohio.

He suffered a stroke 19 years ago and stayed home for 16 ½ years then spent the last 2 ½ years at Richland Manor.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1936, in Allen County, Ohio to Glenn L. and Helen J. (Allstetter) Zimmerly, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 25, 1955 he married Carolyn Joyce McElwain and she survives in Lima.

The Earlham College Quakers used a 20-7 run late in the first half to put away Bluffton 67-38 on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013. Bluffton fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference, while the Quakers upped their season mark to 2-3 and 1-0 in the HCAC.

The Bluffton University men's basketball team opened up Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action in impressive fashion on Wednesday, Dec. 4, dominating Earlham in the paint en route to a 70-45 win. The Beavers took just a five-point lead into halftime, but went on a 16-0 run early in the second period to put away the Quakers.
