Hilty Home, Pandora, holds bazaar Nov. 8-9

Hilty Home, Pandora, will host its annual bazaar on Friday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

There will be items for sale including baked goods and crafts.  All proceeds will go to the activities department of Hilty Home. 

Soup and sandwiches will be available for including homemade chili and chicken noodle soup, as well as ham and turkey subs and shredded chicken sandwiches. Soup, sandwich and beverage are $5, but items may also be purchased a la carte.  Donations of baked goods are accepted and welcomed for the bake sale.

Walkers welcome at Bluffton Schools

The Bluffton Schools will once again welcome any citizen interested in walking the hallways during the winter months, according to Greg Denecker, superintendent. 

The Bluffton Elementary and Middle Schools may be used for walking from 6:15 – 7:15 a.m. and 6-7 p.m., beginning Nov. 4.  Please enter at the main elementary door during these times.  The buildings are open each day when school is in session.

Golden Spike Limited

Here's Nickel Plate Road Berkshire 759 pulling out of the former Lima Locomotive Works in the spring of 1969. The locomotive, built in Lima in 1949, was pulling the Golden Spike Limited. The train was headed to Utah where the centennial of the Golden Spike was to take place.

The train headed south and passed through Bluffton. Garth Gerber took this photo.

Here's the chamber of commerce's Blaze updates

What time is it?

Employees from Frost Roofing place a new roof on the Bluffton town hall clock tower. The previous tower roof, which needed repair, contained asbestos. When that was discovered, the replacement process was delayed due to permits required from the EPA.

Bluffton schools part of 12-district effort to obtains laptops for all students

In hopes of garnering state Straight A grant funds for this region, 12 area school districts have joined forces to submit a proposal for an innovative project that would put laptop computers and other devices into students’ hands and establish a way for teachers in all the schools to share ideas and experiences.

The new Straight A Fund is part of Ohio’s $62 billion, two-year state operating budget. The $250 million grant program aims to reward creative ideas that boost student achievement, reduce spending or put an impressive share of resources into classrooms.
