100-word essay leads to an unusual journey to Peru for university alumna

When TOMS Shoes emailed her about a contest last winter, Stephanie Jankov didn’t know if she should enter.

She had been introduced to the company by Jill Schlabach, her former Bluffton University roommate, and liked its practice of providing one free pair of shoes to a needy child for every pair purchased. She later incorporated that commitment to making a difference into her teaching of freshman English students at Shelby (Ohio) High School, even offering—and buying—TOMS shoes as an incentive for class projects.

Bluffton High School girls' soccer team won their third game of the season, blasting Mohawk 8-0 at Bluffton on Aug. 30.

The Beavers were on the wrong end of a third straight 3-0 setback against Marietta during the second match of day two at the Sommer Center Spiketacular.

Friends of the Library book sale coming; book donations accepted

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library will hold its fall book sale Sept. 26 to Sept. 28. A special Friends’ member preview will be held 5 - 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26.  Friends’ members will enjoy complimentary refreshments, in addition to having the first opportunity to browse and buy sale items, including many children’s books.

Book sale hours for the public are Sept. 26 from 6 - 8 p.m., Sept.27 from 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Sept. 28 from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The sale will be held in the Richland Room on the lower level of the library.
