Richland Manor offers cash prizes for its pie contest winners

Richland Manor, 7400 Swaney Road, invites all pie bakers to enter its April pie baking contest. Three cash prizes will be awards.  Contest pie divisions follow:
• Berry pie
• Cream pie
• Miscellaneous pie

Winners in each division receive a $40 Visa gift card. The contest will take place at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 18, and is open to the public. Persons wanting to submit pies to be judged must complete and submit an entry form by Saturday, April 12.

100 years ago this weekend in Bluffton

Here's a photo of the 1913 Bluffton flood, which occurred between March 23 and 27, 1913. The flood was much wider than the Riley, as many streams across Ohio flooded.

The Feb. 28, 2011, flood was devastating, but imagine cleaning up after the 1913 flood. Here's a photo of that flood taken on Cherry Street. The building on the very far left houses the Village Cut 'n' Curl today.

Here's a look at the sidewalk ordinance coming to Bluffton

Remember the sidewalk repair program of about 10 years ago? It's coming back. Bluffton council anticipates acting on the first of three readings on a new ordinance to address sidewalks not addresses in the first round.

The action is on Monday's council agenda. A complete look at the ordinance is part of an attachment at the bottom of this story.

The new ordinance has three phases:
• Existing sidewalk repair
• Construction and installation of connecting sidewalks
• Construction and installation of new sidewalks

Matilda McNeil was at Burroughs Corp. for 32 years

Matilda Alma McNeil, 93, of Pandora, Ohio, died at 12:10 a.m. on March 23, 2013, at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.

Bluffton to stage ‘Songs for a New World’

Tickets are on sale for Bluffton University’s May Day-weekend production of Jason Robert Brown’s contemporary musical revue, “Songs for a New World.”

Dr. Melissa Friesen, an associate professor and chair of communication and theatre at Bluffton, will direct the show, to be staged May 2-4 in Yoder Recital Hall.
