Weekend doctor: HPV vaccine

HPV stands for human papillomavirus, the most common sexually transmitted infection. Over 14 million new cases occur in the U.S. yearly, although most people do not know that they have been affected. This infection can lead to genital warts or certain types of cancer, with the most common being cervical. Also included are vulvar, anal, penile, and cancers of the head and neck.

Carey Medical and Diagnostic Center opens Monday

The Carey Medical & Diagnostic Center, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, will open on Monday, Aug. 5. The building consists of Carey Medical Center (family medicine), Carey Diagnostics Center (lab, EKG and imaging services) and Carey Specialty Clinic (rotating medical specialists). The new location is at 930 Sheriden Drive, Carey.

Carey natives, Dr. Troy Puckett and Dr. Robert Puckett will providing an array of primary care services to the region. Both physicians are now welcoming patients of all ages. To make an appointment,  call 419-396-7683.

Bluffton Hospital specialty clinic offers physician specializing in GERD

Dr. Reynolds sees patients in Bluffton on Mondays and Thursdays

Among the many specialty clinics provided by Bluffton Hospital is one focusing on GERD, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Dr. Jessica Reynolds, M.D., of Surgical Associates of Northwest Ohio, Findlay,  sees patients in the Bluffton Hospital specialty clinic on Mondays and Thursdays.

GERD is caused by a weak muscle in the esophagus. It allows acid and bile to flow back from the stomach into the esophagus. That causes damage to the lining of the esophagus, throat and lungs.
