Bluffton's north water tower renovation project starts soon

Interior paint renovation on the north Bluffton water tower (Snider Road) will begin next week.

According to Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, the tower whille be out of service for four to five weeks to allow for adequate coating curing time.

The water tower project is one item in the administrator's report to Bluffton council on Monday evening.

During the meeting council will receive an update on a drainage project.

School board acts on resignations and hirings

Bluffton school board will act on several resignations and hirings during its Thursday, June 23, board meeting. Action anticipated includes:

Council hears final reading of water-sewer surchange tonight

On Monday evening, Bluffton council will act on the final reading of an ordinance set a surcharge on water and sewer accounts in the village.

The surcharge is based upon meter size. The range of meters in the village is from 5/8 inches all the way to 6 inches.

The accompanying charge shows the monthly surcharge.

Council will also act on adopting 2016 asphalt sealing project schedule. Street and alley committee has recommended using Nonnemaker, a Columbus Grove firm, for this project, at a cost of $11,870.

Council awards bids on two major village projects

On Monday Bluffton council awarded contracts for two major village projects to begin this summer.

West side interceptor sanitary sewer project
Council awarded the project to Beaverdam Contracting, Inc. The firm provided the low bid on the project at $1,444,767.

"We received four bids for the interceptor project, ranging from $1,444,767 to $1,743,672," Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, told council members. 

The project is anticipated to begin near the end of the month.

Council sets several committee meetings

Bluffton council set several committee meetings on Monday. Those meetings follow:

• Thursday, June 9, 5 p.m. - Finance committee, to discuss financing of west side interceptor sewer project
• Thursday, June 9, 6 p.m. - Special council meeting, to vote on second reading of water hike ordinance
• Tuesday, June 14, 6 p.m. - Insurance committee
• Tuesday, June 14, 6:30 p.m. - Street and alley committee, to review sealing of village parking lots

2nd reading of Bluffton water hike ordinance June 9

Bluffton council will  hold a special meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 9, in the town hall.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss utilities and to vote on the second reading of Ordinance 9-16, which increases water rates in the village.

The ordinance's first reading passed on June 6.
