Alice Essinger wins library adult spelling bee

Alice Essinger is the winner of the second annual Adult Spelling Bee held recently by the Bluffton Public Library.

Runners-up were Gail Clingerman, Arlene Garmatter and Paula Scott.

The contestants helped raise money for children’s programs, and in doing so, supported early literacy in Bluffton and its surrounding area.

Next year's spelling bee will include a family theme.  

The Quarry Farm offers "living side by live" program Thursday at the library

Ever wonder what animal hides under your porch?

Ever wonder what animal hides under your porch? Or, flies overhead at night, or goes "bump" in the night?

A 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, program at the Bluffton Public Library, may answer those questions. The library features 'Living Side by Side," a program presented by The Quarry Farm. The Farm is located in rural Pandora at 14321 Road 7L.

That's correct. Bluffton Public Library invites adults patrons to join in its second annual spelling bee.

Jessica Hermiller, library administrator said, "This fun competition promotes community literacy and features several prizes for participants to win, including a cash grand prize."

Kathy Burrus featured author at Thursday library's book signing

Bluffton Public Library hosts an author visit and book signing featuring Kathy Burrus  of rural Columbus Grove, with her new release “Lovely Traces of Hope!”

The event is at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, on the main floor of the library at 145 S. Main St., Bluffton. Copies of the book will be available for purchase for $12.99. (Cash only, please.)

Yarn Group, Si-Fi Writers meet Sept. 1 at the library

Don't say there's not anything to do in Bluffton this fall.

Two organizational meetings are set for Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Bluffton Public Library for persons interested knitting and in science fiction/fantasy writing.

Persons interested in knitting are invited to the first meeting following a summer break. The meeting is at 6 p.m.

According to the organizers: “It’s a place where needle crafts of all techniques and levels can gather to learn new techniques, share wisdom and be supportive of one another.

The Quarry Farm Presents "Living Side by Side"

The Quarry Farm presents "Living Side by Side" on Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. in the lower level meeting room. Registration is required. This family-friendly event will include a photographic meeting with those wild animals that hide under the porch, fly overhead, and go bump in the night, as well as a face-to-face encounter with one or more of them and one of their farm friends!
