Bluffton University President's Forum set for Sept. 11

Dr. James M. Harder, president of Bluffton University, will present the annual President's Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in Founders Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
As the 2012-13 academic year gets under way, Harder will highlight current initiatives at Bluffton, including new program development and facilities improvements. He will also reflect on Bluffton's civic engagement program theme for this year, "Virtual Living: Technology's Impact on Culture and Learning."

Women's soccer: Bluffton dominates Andrews 10-0 in season opener

The Bluffton University women's soccer team manhandled Andrews University to the tune of a 10-0 shutout on Friday, August 31, 2012.
Five different Beavers found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes for a 5-0 Bluffton lead at the break. Maddie Moore (Linn Grove, Ind.) got the Beavers on the scoreboard at the 11:50 mark before Bluffton added four tallies in a 14-minute span from 26:02 until the 40:17 mark.

The Bluffton University volleyball team started out with a three-set victory over the Hornets of Waynesburg University (25-20, 25-6, 25-19) on Friday, August 31.

Tobias Buckell university forum: Learn how to learn, Bluffton students urged

Living in a time of rapidly increasing change can be intimidating, Tobias Buckell admits.
Moore's Law holds--still accurately, Buckell says--that the speed of computing chips doubles every 18 months, while storage capacity for hard drives doubles every 12 months, according to Kryder's Law.
An iPhone, he notes, has more computing power than NASA did when it sent men to the moon, and an Xbox has the same power as a military-level supercomputer did when he was a college student at Bluffton in the late 1990s.

Bluffton University welcomes new faculty, staff for 2012-2013

Two faculty members and two vice presidents are joining the Bluffton University community this academic year along with several new staff members and graduate assistant coaches in athletics.

New assistant professors for 2012-13 are Dr. Martina Cucchiara, in history, and Milagros Quiles, in Spanish. Meanwhile, Dr. Julie DeGraw, vice president for student life and dean of students, and Ron Headings, vice president for enrollment management and marketing, have come to campus as new members of President James Harder’s Cabinet.
