Hi, Bluffton Community. Travis Music here. If you don’t know who I am, I am co-chair of the Bluffton Ride to Remember and I’m on the Bluffton Pathway Board. Where am I at? I’m at (State Route) 103. Look at it, it’s beautiful. We’ve got blacktop.

Scarecrow ballot now available

Voting for the best scarecrows in town is underway. The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has posted the ballot at www.explorebluffton.com/scarecrows/

There are over 25 participating businesses. Chamber director Jim Enneking says "this year is going to be a close race."

Voting ends at midnight on Sunday, October 29, with the winner to be announced alongside the winning ticket numbers from the final Discovery Day.

What you missed at the October 2023 Bluffton chamber meeting

Guests at the October 13 breakfast meeting of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce found their parking spaces off Main Street (paving in progress) and then found breakfast made for them, courtesy of Greenhorn and event sponsor GROB Systems.

Ohio crop report from USDA

Ohio corn and soybean producers expect record high corn and soybean yields this year, according to Ben Torrance, State  Statistician, USDA NASS, Ohio Field Office. The October Crop Production Report is based on conditions as of October 1, 2023. Some highlights of the report follow: 

• Ohio expected corn yield is up 8 bushels from last year to 195 bushels per acre. Total production is forecast at 657 million  bushels, up 11 percent from last year. 

• Ohio soybean production is expected to total 270 million bushels, down 4 percent from last year. The yield is forecast at  57 bushels per acre, up 1.5 bushels from last year.

CNB to host 2024 economic forecast presentations

Beginning Friday, October 20, Citizens National Bank will host a series of free seminars featuring economist Robert J. Morgan.

Local business owners are invited to hear Morgan present his economic forecast for 2024. He will discuss current market conditions and what he expects to see in regards to unemployment, housing and the challenges facing business owners in the upcoming year.

Certified Crop Advisor CEU Credits Available

The Ohio State University Extension Agronomic Crops Team has developed an online, self-paced course for Certified Crop Advisors to earn CEU credits.

The course is designed as a series of eight video, each with a five-question quiz. Up to four CEU credits can be earned upon successful completion of all eight modules and quizzes with a passing score.
