Citizens National Bank named Bank of the Year by Ohio Statewide Development Corp.

Citizens National Bank was recently named Bank of the Year by the Ohio Statewide Development Corp. (OSDC), according to Michael Romey, CNB president and CEO.

New owners for Fortman Insurance, and company stays in the family

Jonathan Fortman and Zachary Fortman, sons of John and Catherine Fortman, recently purchased the Ottawa and Bluffton businesses of Fortman Insurance Services. 
 
Company founders, John and Catherine, will continue to stay active in the business. 
 
John Fortman started Fortman Insurance Services in November 1978, and his wife, Catherine, joined him in 1982.

Local Union 776 assists family of child stricken with cancer

The apprentices of Plumbers, Pipefitters & Service Technicians Local Union 776 along with a number of volunteers in the community are helping to update a Lima area home for the family of a child with cancer.

10-year-old Brandon Schindler was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndromes or MDS in March 2014. Brandon has undergone a bone marrow transplant and is now receiving treatments to stop his body from rejecting the new cells. Before he can return home from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital later this year, his Shawnee Township home must be germ free.

BCE business plan competition underway; Jan. 21 is final date to register

Kathy Keller of Rhodes State College Small Business Administration talks with potential entrees in the 2016 Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs Ropp Triplett Business Plan Competition.

Jan. 13 was a free information session about the competition. Spots are still open in the competition, but the final deadline to enter is Thursday, Jan. 21, according to Fred Steiner, BCE director.

Classes continue weekly for seven weeks in the town hall. This is the 7th annual  BCE competition.

2 openings remain in Friday's Improving Online Visibility workshop

Two openings remain in the Friday, Jan. 15, Hands-On Workshop "Improving Online Visibility," led by Paula Scott and offered by Bluffton Center for Entreprenuers.

“What happens when a visitor looks for your Bluffton business with a search engine or app?” asks Scott. “Don’t know. Or, don’t like what you find?”

Shirley's celebrates National Popcorn Day Jan. 23 with several activities

Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn is celebrating National Popcorn Day, with several activities on Saturday, Jan. 23, according to Peter Suter.

These include:
• Free theatre-style popcorn for everyone
• All bags of popcorn are Buy-One-Get-One free (equal or lesser value, limit 2)
• Employee popcorn cook-off

"Our associates are teaming in the store up to compete with their own flavor creations and you help determine the winner," said Suter.
