Bryant Miller, new pastor at First United Methodist, attended school here until 8th grade

Bryant Miller attended Bluffton schools until eighth grade when his family moved into the Bath school system.

He returned to Bluffton this summer after a 15-year absence. In July he accepted the call as pastor of First United Methodist Church. His first preaching Sunday was July 3.

Miller is a seminary student working toward a master's of divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky. He enrolled in the spring of 2009 and continues to take classes toward that degree.

End of summer blast open to area youth Sunday on Presbyterian Church lawn

Bluffton junior high and high school youth are invited to an End of Summer Youth Blast Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Presbyterian Church on Main Street.

High school and junior high youth are invited to join in on pizza, games and a movie on the lawn. Cost is $2 per person or $5 for three or more youth from the same family. All high school youth (from youth entering sixth grade on up) are invited to this event, so tell all of your friends

Community dinners planned Aug. 4 and 18

Two community meals are planned in August by the Bluffton Inner Church Board. The free meals are at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, and 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St.

The Aug. 4 dinner is sponsored by Bluffton Trinity United Methodist Church. The Aug. 18 dinner is sponsored by the SHANNON Service Club.

Monetary donations support the work of the Bluffton Community Assistance food pantry.

Lots of Bluffton and Pandora connections to Camp Friedenswald

Camp Friedenswald, Cassopolis, Mich., has motivated to teach and uphold the Mennonite and Anabaptist faith for over 60 years. Throughout those years, a variety of people have helped cultivate what is now a thriving and efficient camp.

Although staff members and volunteers of Camp Friedenswald come from all over the world, there is a large group of people from the Bluffton and Pandora area who have felt it their calling to serve at Friedenswald.

St. John's UCC ice cream social Aug. 7

St. John's United Church of Christ will hold an ice cream social from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7, at the church. The event is hosted by the Evangelism Committee.

The menu includes homemade ice cream, homemade fruit pies, Sara's hot meat sandwiches, hotdogs and potato chips. The event is open to the public.

Inside Out and Upside Down on Main Street community VBS theme

One of Bluffton's oldest summer traditions, which dates back to the 1920s, community vacation Bible school, starts on Sunday evening.

This year's VBS is held at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 8375 Phillips Road. This year's VBS theme is "Inside Out and Upside Down on Main Street."

VBS is open to any elementary-aged youth in the community. VBS takes place Sunday, July 24 through Thursday, July 28. Each session starts at 6:30 p.m.
