LEGO fun at the library on Friday

Bluffton Public Library hosts LEGO-building fun on Friday, June 21 from 1-3 p.m. in the lower level meeting room. Bring your own LEGOs or use the library's.

Open to all ages and no registration is required. 

Watercolor workshop at library on June 26

Create your own watercolor at the Wednesday, June 26 workshop at the library at 6 p.m. Jeanne Beutler will be leading the workshop, and the cost is $10 at the door. 

No previous experience required, but space is limited, so please register.

Ohio governor USDA disaster designation for Ohio farmers

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue requesting a USDA Secretarial disaster designation for Ohio amid heavy rainfall impacting Ohio farmers.

In his letter, Governor DeWine notes that record rainfall through the spring planting season has been devastating to Ohio farmers, with flooding and saturated fields preventing them from planting crops. Only 50 percent of Ohio’s corn crop and 32 percent of Ohio’s soybean crop have been planted as of June 10, 2019.

Bluffton PD, sheriff's office, search for "person of potential suicidal risk"

Subject found in rural Bluffton and taken to St. Rita's Medical Center

A person idenitifed by Bluffton police as a potential suicidal risk was taken by Bluffton EMS to St. Rita's Medical Center for a psychological evaluation as a result of self-inflicted injuries.

The occurrence took place on Tuesday, June 18. Ryan Burkholder, Bluffton police chief provide the following information to the Icon:

"Police offiers and Allen County sheriff deputies responded to the area of the Bluffton University Nature Preserve for a suicidal subject.

Her role is to connect vulnerable children from around the world to local sponsors

As a volunteer for World Vision, a humanitarian aid, development and advocacy organization, Holly Metzger, a 2005 Bluffton University graduate, is living out the values instilled during her Bluffton education.

“The discussions we had in classes here, the cross-cultural experience and the whole Bluffton package just really encouraged my passion and drive to be part of something bigger,” said Metzger, now an enrollment counselor at Bluffton University.
