Elementary PTO invites families to "science night"

Lots of free hands-on science activities on Friday

Want to make your own lava lamp?

The Bluffton PTO invites families to elementary science night from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at the elementary school gym and cafeteria.

Lots of free hands-on science activities are part of the evening. In addition to lava lamps, there are stations to test how fast you can throw objects of different weights using a radar gun.

Other activities include building foil boats and test how much weight they can hold, make ice cream, explore ONU’s mobile health clinic and make a water filter and then filter dirty water.

Vendor registration open for May 9 event

Arts and crafts show in downtown

Vendor registrations are being accepting for the Saturday, May 9, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce arts and crafts festival.

Here are some of the details for this year’s show:
•  Family-oriented festival with lots of free entertainment, such as pony rides, mini golf, a llama exhibit, and live music.

• Vendors selling non-commercial artwork and crafts welcome. Vendor license required.

• Approximately 85 outdoor booth spaces available along Main Street.

• Vendors supply your own booth, canopy etc.

Slapstick comedy this weekend at Freed Center

"Loot" performances Thursday through Sunday

The Freed Center at Ohio Northern University presents “Loot,” by Joe Orton, in three 7:30 p.m. performances, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-22 and 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23, in the Stambaugh Studio Theatre.

The performance is described this way:

“Uproarious slapstick meets dubious morals as two young friends stash the proceeds of a bank robbery in an occupied coffin in an attempt to hide their spoils from the attentions of a psychopathic policeman, a gold-digging nurse and a grieving widower.

Community chili cook-off on Tuesday

Who makes the best chili in Bluffton? Taste tests and voting part of the experience

Bluffton's Community Chili Cook-off, with proceeds benefiting the Bluffton Community Assistance Program is from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Bluffton middle school cafetorium.

This is the fourth year of the event. A number of different chili recipes will be available for tasting, provided by individuals and church groups.

Garage sale season starts in 2 weekends

SHANNON Service Club and Bluffton Senior Citizens at the end of the month

Garage sale season arrives in Bluffton at the end of the month.

The community hosts two giant garage sales with the SHANNON Service Club’s two-day sale and Bluffton Senior Center’s three-day sale. Here are the details:

SHANNON Service Club sale
The sale is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, and from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 29, at The Centre, 601 N. Main St., Bluffton. This is the 17th annual club sale. The sale includes dozens of tables from vendors who will offer a large assortment of items.

These are the first four programs on this spring’s OVAL classes at Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

OVAL stands for “Our Version of Adult Learning” program, hosted by the Senior Center after Bluffton University stopped holding adult learning classes in 2018.
