Bluffton Junior Girl Scouts host Earth Day event April 27

Bluffton's Junior Girl Scout troop is hosting an Earth Day celebration at Buckeye Park Saturday, April 27, from 2-4 p.m.  

A bike decorating contest with cash prizes, a bike parade, and park cleanup and planting are planned. Admission fee is a donation of an item that will help homeless pets. 

This project of Troop 20643 will help the girls fulfill the requirements of the Bronze Award, the highest award that can be earned by Junior Girl Scouts. The entire community is invited.

Hospital Auxiliary holds Spring Step Shoes-Miche purse event

Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Spring Step Shoes and Miche purse with changing shells and handles shopping spree from Monday, April 29 to Thursday, May 2.

The sale provides shoppers with special discounts.

The sale is in the hospital conference room, with the following hours:
Monday, April 29  10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tuesday, April 30   8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Wednesday, May 1 9 a.m. -11 a.m.; noon-2 p.m.
Thursday, May 2    8 a.m.-11 a.m.

Bette’s Polka Band at the Senior Center on April 25

On Thursday, April 25, Bette’s Polka Band will be playing at the Bluffton Senior Center. The dance is free and open to the public.

Bette is known for her polkas and square dances as well as fox trots and waltzes. The dance is from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the doors opening at 4 p.m.

"Members of the Senior Center love to show new comers how to dance and everyone is welcome. The dance is sponsored by the Hilty Home of Pandora," Tonya Meyer told The News.

ArtSpace/Lima spring show reception April 26

 

The ArtSpace/Lima Spring Show 2013 will open Friday, April 26, with a public reception for the artists and their friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Ellen Nelson Gallery.

Spring Show 2013 is the 58th annual exhibit of that name at ArtSpace/Lima. Entries are accepted from within a 100-mile radius of Lima in the following categories: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, digital art and mixed media.

UA state apprenticeship contest in Lima

The United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Service Technicians will hold its state apprenticeship contest in Lima on April 23, 24, and 25 at the office of UA Local 776 at 1300 Bowman Road behind the Allen County Fairgrounds.

The top apprentices from 15 different locals across Ohio will be competing for top   honors in plumbing, pipefitting, welding, sprinkler fitting and HVAC service. Representing Local 776 in this year’s competition are Matt Chiles-pipefitter, Nathan Chamberlain-welder and Dallas Hoffman-HVAC.

BHS musical this weekend: "Alice in Wonderland"

The Bluffton High School Music Department presents "Alice in Wonderland," this weekend in the middle school cafetorium. The performance is the Prince Street Players version.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14.

Tickets are now on sale at Bluffton Middle School during office hours. Tickets are:
• Reserved seating tickets $10
• Adult General Admission tickets $5
• Student General Admission tickets $3
