All aboard the #9 Lima-Bluffton bus

A visit to the Allen County Museum using public bus

By Paula Scott

On August 17, the Icon tagged along for a ride on the Route 9 bus provided by the Allen County Regional Transit Authority. I joined a small but sociable group from the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center for a visit to the Allen County Historical Society and Museum, 620 W. Market Street.

My purpose was to investigate the bus-riding opportunity, which has been available since June 2021, but the group's destination was an added temptation. Senior center director Tonya Meyer was our leader, providing information about fares and recommending a brown bag lunch. I hurried over to the Dough Hook for a quick sandwich and drink, asking Marlena Ballinger what was her fastest sandwich--smoked turkey was on the slicer.

Bluffton Icon Facebook technical difficulties

UPDATE: Our access to Facebook has been restored and your viewer access may in fact not have been interrupted. However, we'll be updating a few posts that have been lost in the process.

--------------

The Bluffton Icon's Facebook page service has been interrupted on the morning of July 26. Our switch to the new Pages experience was bumpy, so we opted to switch back to the Classic view.

The result for now is no Bluffton Icon Facebook page. We'll keep you posted.

Task force on street safety

Does the "complete streets" concept ring a bell? The Village of Bluffton has created a Complete Streets Task force to create a plan to improve the safety of walkers and bike riders.

On June 22 the Icon joined a stroll along several streets with a small group task force members, Allen County health and planning staffers, and residents to test drive a feedback form, a.k.a. "Sidewalks, streets, and crossings walk audit."

Father’s Day inspiration

By Paula Scott

Father’s Day shouldn’t pass without a mention in the Icons. I’m sorry to say that Mother’s Day 2022 passed without note on our Bluffton site, while Ada received a shopping countdown. Indeed, gifts and meals are often how we lavish love on family members. In my own family, Mother’s Day has been squeezed in between countless soccer tournaments and graduations, while Father’s Day in June seems a bit more leisurely.

Opinions and ideas welcome for Bluffton Beyond Tomorrow

The Village of Bluffton wants to know your ideas for “Bluffton Beyond Tomorrow.” Those engaged in the community, including residents, employees, are invited to complete an online survey HERE.

The survey is brief and uses check boxes and lists to speed up the experience. The questions aren’t hard. What do you love about Bluffton? What needs improving?

What would you prioritize when it comes to investing time, effort, money and land?

The results will help the Village of Bluffton create a planning document that in turn will help the community apply for funding.

The survey will be distributed online and at local events. You can pass along the survey with the attached QR code or send the URL above to your friends, neighbors and family in the area.
