Another view of Memorial Day

The Icon's home page photo of Memorial Day featured a view from a zoom 140 mm lens enlarged beyond that point.

Here's approximately the same view photographed at 18 mm. Same spot, different, yet interesting, perspective.

Thoughts on the death of James Bond

Well, one James Bond, that is

(Hum the James Bond Theme while reading this)

Dum dum dum dum
Dum dum dum dum

da da tee da da da daa
da da ta da daaaaaa

da da tee da  da da daaa
da de da dot ta da daaaaaaaa

Roger Moore was never my favorite James Bond. I mean, Sean Connery, come on. Nobody’s “Bond, James Bond,” like the Scot.

What third graders learn about Bluffton

More on the third grade-mural photo.

The Icon posted this photo last week. It shows third graders in Ann Kingsley's class at the Main Street mural. We ask Ann for more details and here's what she sent us:

In third grade, social studies focuses on "community."

We spend the month of May learning about Bluffton. This is our first of three Bluffton history walks.

This owl has its clock messed up

A young screech owl moved into the Icon's backyard on Grove Street earlier this month. Over this past weekend, the owl decided to remain awake during the day.

It continued its owl calls throughout Saturday afternoon. Here's a photo of the bird, in a maple tree at about 40 feet above ground. This photo was taken in the middle of the afternoon and the owl's eyes are open.
