Dr, Wood guest speaker at Lima Rotary Oct. 22

The new President of Bluffton University, Dr. Jane Wood, will be the guest speaker at the Lima Rotary Club on Monday, Oct. 22. Dr. Wood began her new duties July 1. She is just the 10th president in the 119-year-history of Bluffton University.

The Lima Rotary Club meets in the North Hall of the Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center at 7 Town Square at noon every Monday.

Volleyball: Beavers convincing in win at Anderson

The Bluffton University volleyball team had no time to wallow following its first Heartland Conference loss of the season on Sunday, traveling to Anderson University for a matchup with the Ravens on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018. Bluffton worked overtime in the lidlifter, posting a 30-28 victory, before completing the sweep with convincing 25-15 and 25-11 wins in sets two and three.

Kid's art zone demo at BFR Thursday

Call to register

Bluffton Family Recreation will hold a "kid's art zone" demonstration on Thursday according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

The free demo is for youth ages 5 to 12 and takes place from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.

The demo is limited to the first 10 sign-ups. Call BFR at 419-358-4150 to register your youth.

Meet the 2018 Bluffton University homecoming court

Queen is Jena O'Brien of Toledo; king is Jeffrey Arnett of Tecumseh, Michigan

Seniors Jeffrey Arnett of Tecumseh, Mich., and Jena O’Brien of Toledo, Ohio, were crowned Bluffton University’s homecoming king and queen at halftime of the annual Homecoming football game on Oct. 13.

Other seniors on the homecoming court were Thomas Wagler of Bloomdale, Ohio, and Angel Huerta of Archbold, Ohio. Junior attendants were Ethan Zaerr of Archbold, Ohio, and Emma Cobb of Archbold, Ohio, while sophomore attendants were Jihad Shockley of Columbus, Ohio, and Kayla McSwords of Marysville, Ohio.

Women’s CC team 7th of 26 at Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble

The Bluffton University cross country team ran their final tune-up for the Heartland Conference Championship in two weeks with the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble and came home with another excellent result on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The women's team ran to another all-time best finish, placing seventh out of 26 total teams in the race, including knocking off many conference foes in the process.

Daniel J. Amstutz was active in the Pandora community

1969 Pandora-Gilboa HS graduate; involved in agriculture

Daniel J. Amstutz, 67, of Pandora died  Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. He was born May 14, 1951, in Bluffton to Fred and Mary (Schmidt) Amstutz.  On Sept. 4, 1971, he married Marty Shank and she survives.
