The Bluffton 7th grade girls' basketball team recently wrapped up their season by winning the Northwest Conference Championship game 41-24 over Columbus Grove.

The Lady Pirates went 16-0 for the season, winning their games by an average score of 40-15.

Barbara Tighe, 1919-2014

Barbara E. Tighe, 94, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at 3:30 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton, Ohio.

She was born on June 15, 1919 in Hardin County, Ohio to Elza and Sara (Wingate) Elwood, who preceded her in death. On August 29, 1942 she married Andrew "Andy" Tighe and he died on August 10, 1997.

Barbara was a registered nurse and retired as a private duty nurse and administrator for Avanell Stambaugh. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada. She graduated from Ada High School and was a 1940 graduate of the Lima Memorial School of Nursing.

Economics ‘blogosphere’ topic of talk on Feb. 28

Dr. Jonathan Andreas, an associate professor of economics at Bluffton University, will discuss “An Economics Blogosphere Internship” in a campus colloquium at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.

Ka BOOM - fireworks returns to Bluffton after a year's absence

After a one-year absence fireworks will light up Bluffton’s nighttime sky as a pre-Fourth of July weekend celebration.

Bluffton fireworks, presented by First National Bank and Springfield Fireworks, Bluffton, a production of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, takes place the evening of Saturday, June 28, in the outdoor athletic field area of Bluffton University at the corner of Bentley and Augsburger roads.

The chamber is currently seeking donations from area businesses, industries, organizations and individuals to help support the fireworks.

Ribbon cut on MHCO Transition to Home Rehabilitation Center

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO), Bluffton, celebrated the end of a 10-month renovation project at the Mennonite Memorial Home campus’s main building with a ribbon cutting and open house on Feb. 23.

Nearly 100 people gathered to celebrate the opening of the Transition to Home Rehabilitation Center that the $1 million project provided.  The new Transition to Home program will focus on patients with short-term rehabilitative needs.
