Bluffton weather forecast for single digit temperatures

Following steady rain and wind on Friday, January 12, the National Weather Service forecast is for dramatically colder weather on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

The forecast, provided HERE, includes a wind advistory until 7:00 p.m. and a wind chill advisory.

On the evening of January 13, temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 4 °F. There is a slight chance of snow and conditions will be breezy.

Single digit lows are forecast through Tuesday.

Cory-Rawson will induct three into Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame 

Cory-Rawson Local Schools will induct the inaugural class of its Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame on Friday, February 9, 2024. The purpose of the district’s Hall of Fame is to recognize graduates of Cory-Rawson, Mount Cory, or Rawson High Schools whose achievements have impacted the region, state, nation, and world. The three 2024 inductees include Melana A. Maxie (Class of 1983), Jason E. Searfoss (Class of 1990), and Tara C. Welch Smith (Class of 1994). 

The induction events include an assembly introducing the inductees to the high school students and staff and a presentation during halftime of the high school varsity basketball game that evening. The generosity of various donors made the Hall of Fame possible. 

Melana A. Maxie graduated from Purdue University in 1987 with a B.S. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Her career in the aerospace defense industry focused on structural analysis, store certification, and weapons integration on the F-16 and F-35 aircrafts. When Melana retired in 2017 she was the F-35 Weapons Integration and Certification Manager, where she ensured all required data was gathered and submitted to the U.S. Government to support certification that all weapons could be safely loaded, carried, and employed on all three variants of the F-35.

Carolyn Green was a teacher

Carolyn May (Moyer) Green, 99, of Bluffton passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024.  She was born at home near Mt. Cory on the family farm to Fred and Salva (Steiner) Moyer on May 16, 1924.  She was the youngest of three children.

Pirate girls basketball loss to state-ranked Crestview

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School girls basketball team lost 65-33 to visiting Northwest Conference leader Crestview Thursday evening, January 11.

Knights ace Cali Gregory scored 22 points to pace the victors.

The Pirates dropped to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in NWC action with the loss.

Local drone photographer Zac Kohli was up with the sun on a recent January morning. His view encompasses much of Bluffton and is aimed straight down College Avenue.

Agricultural easement purchase program taking applications

Landowners in Allen County can apply from January 11-February 26, 2024. 

LIMA__The West Central Ohio Land Conservancy (WCOLC) is in the process of selecting interested landowners who meet the qualifications for the Local Agricultural Easement Purchase Program (LAEPP) in Allen County from January 11th-February 26, 2024. Interested agricultural landowners are encouraged to call 567-204-9126 or email [email protected] for additional information.  

The WCOLC will complete a pre-certification scoring of qualified applicants.  The WCOLC will select the landowners with the highest pre-certification scores and aid them in completing an application to be submitted to the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) for purchase of their agricultural easement.
