Upcoming village council meetings posted

Several committee meetings are on the Bluffton council schedule. Those follow:
Ordinance Committee - Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
Streets, Alleys & Sidewalks Committee - Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.
Parks & Rec Committee - Thursday, Aug. 15 at noon
Tree Commission - Thursday, Aug.15 at 7 p.m.
Safety Service Committee  - Monday, Aug. 19 at noon
Personnel Committee - Wednesday, Aug. 21 at noon
Council Meeting - Monday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
All meetings are held at the Village's Town Hall.

Warning sirens in Bluffton started again today at 9 p.m. The map shows heavy rain in the southwestern portion of Allen County.

Bluffton PD investigating business break-ins

Several leads being pursued

Ryan Burkholder, Bluffton police chief, provided the Icon with a letter concerning break-ins of several Bluffton businesses that occurred on July 25.

His letter follows:
On July 25, 2019, several businesses were broken into. We are currently investigating several leads. Details associated with this ongoing investigation cannot be released at this time, however. I assure you that when details can be released, they will be.

Some general recommendations to be made to the business owners at this time include the following:

Elementary class lists posted at 5 p.m. Wednesday

Those questions will be answered after 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, as Bluffton elementary class lists for 2019-20 will be posted on the front doors of the elementy building.

John George retired this year after teaching 37 years

Chemistry teacher and academic team coach at BHS; was "town crier" during Blaze of Lights

Bluffton resident, John Edward George, 61, retired Bluffton HS chemistry teacher and Blaze of Lights "town crier," died Aug. 12, 2019, at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born Nov. 21, 1957, to Charles and Joan (Hite) George. 

John graduated from Liberty Union High School where he was class president and valedictorian, received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and his master’s degree from Ohio State University.
