Complete white-out on Interstate 75 causes accident south of Findlay

Would you believe up to 200 tons of salt go on village streets in the winter - but wait, there's also beet juice

How much salt goes on Bluffton’s streets each winter? What does it cost? And, what's this about beet juice? The Icon asked Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, these questions. Here’s his responses:

The salt used this winter season is leftover from last year. Near the end of the season last year, the Village of Bluffton still had a reserve amount of salt to purchase based on our contract and we were able to fill our salt storage bins to capacity at last season’s prices of $38 per delivered ton.

Senior Center collects Community Market and Great Scott receipts

The Bluffton Senior Citizens Center collects Community Market and Great Scott receipts. The center receives 1 percent back on receipts. In 2014 the Center received $200 for its collection efforts.

80-deer herd

On Tuesday evening the Augsburger Road forest deer herd had supper on the corn stubble of Judy and Larry Diller's field. This scene, taken with a cell phone from Bentley Road is taken from the east. The Icon counted over 80 deer in the field.

Cardiologist joins BVHS HeartCare Center

Dr. Pamela Reed has joined Blanchard Valley Health System’s Jane & Gary Heminger HeartCare Center. Dr. Reed’s specialties include care for coronary artery disease, heart attack treatment, coronary stenting, women’s heart care and cardiovascular evaluation and testing.

Reed received her medical degree from Michigan State University. She completed an internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship and interventional cardiology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
