Blanchard River Watershed Partnership has several Bluffton projects planned in 2015

Several events connected to Bluffton are part of the 2015 programming of the Blanchard River Watershed Project, according to Phil Martin, director.

• The BRWP will still have two Great Lakes Commission grants in the Upper Riley Creek and Lower Riley Creek watersheds during 2015. Both grants are for Best Management Practices with the farmers.

Bluffton students face new assessments this spring - school newsletter attached

Bluffton teachers are preparing students for new assessments that will take place this spring, according to Greg Denecker, Bluffton superintendent.

The announcement was made in the winter school newsletter distributed to residents of the school district late last week.

$500 grant to Scrap Artists for wounded armed forces quilting project Feb. 21

The Bluffton Scrap Artists recently applied for and were selected to receive a $500 grant from Ohio Quilts.

The grant will help cover the costs associated with making soldier quilts for wounded men and women in the U.S. armed forces. There will be an open sew day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Patio Room at Maple Crest Senior Living Center.

December 9 -- Brayden Allen, son of Brian and Lindsay Rutter, Elida

December 15 -- Autumn Noelle, daughter of Lydia and Christian Steiner

December 16

       -- Persephone Kay Weyer, daughter of Garrett and Tamara Weyer, Beaverdam

       -- Cristian Xavier, son of Maria and Guillermo Hernandez, Deshler

Six days in January had minus zero readings

Raise your hand if you thought January 2015 was colder than most Januarys.

There's lot of hands raised out there and you are correct. According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, the average January 2015 daily temperature was 21.6 degrees. The normal January daily temperature is 25.4 degrees.

Even though it was a colder-than-normal January the highs and lows included a 59 degree fluxuation. The high temperature of January was 51 on Jan. 3. The low was seven days later at minus 8. That mark was one of six January days that reached minus zero degrees.

The color purple - only in Bluffton

Even the ice melt on campus is purple. Must be a new branding campaign.
