Funeral service Friday for David "Rico" Rodriguez, owner of Owlsburg tavern building

Editor's Note:  David "Rico" Rodriguez  was the owner of Owlsburg tavern, also known earlier as Van's Corner. The tavern was located on the corner of State Route 235 and Old U.S. 30, north of Ada. As announced in the Icon last fall, he had planned to open Cherico's Restaurant in that building.

David S. “Rico” Rodriguez, 47, died on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at his residence in Bluffton.

Louise Cantwell volunteered over 2,000 hours at Bluffton Hospital

A. Louise Cantwell, 91, died April 27, 2016, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Louise was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Three Rivers, Michigan, to the late Lester and June (Baxter) Luse.  On April 29, 1950, she married Leslie Cantwell, Jr. who preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1989.

Homer Miller was a WWII Army Air Force pilot

Homer Edward Miller, 92, died April 28, 2016, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Homer was born May 27, 1923 in Gomer, Ohio, to the late Homer and Cecile (Rigdon) Miller who preceded him in death. On May 2, 1947, he married Dorothy (Davis) Miller who survives.

Homer was a lifetime farmer and retired as a tool and die maker from Superior Coach in Lima.  He was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II.  Homer was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge #72 in Delphos and member of the Allen County Farm Bureau.  He was a graduate of Gomer High School.

David Orr was retired from Lima Ford Engine Plant after working 40 years

David Clare Orr, 81, died April 27, 2016 at Bluffton Hospital.  David was born April 23, 1935, in Flint, Mich., to the late Clifton and Arlene (Blackmer) Orr.  On March 29, 1968, he married Judy Burkholder Orr who survives.

David retired from Lima Ford Engine Plant after 40 years.  He enjoyed NASCAR and was a car and motorcycle enthusiast.  David was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.

Funeral service April 30 for 99-year-old Glada Zoe Basinger

Glada Zoe Basinger, 99, died April 27, 2016, at Bluffton Hospital. Glada was born April 18, 1917, in Hancock, County, to the late John and Mary (Barkimer) Wilkins.  On Jan. 18, 1942, she married Robert H. Basinger and he preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1994. 

Glada was a homemaker and was a member of the Bethel United Church of Christ near Ada. She enjoyed being a seamstress and baking pies and cookies.
