Music teacher and softball coach in the UP; took her team to the regional finals

Icon: We understanding you are a high school teacher and softball coach.
Jenny: I teach and coach at Bark River-Harris High School in Michigan.

Icon: Where is it on the Michigan map?
Jenny: It’s in Harris, Michigan, about 10 miles northwest of Escanaba in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. About 10 hours from Bluffton.

Next Gardeners club meeting at community gardens on July 2

The next Gardeners of the Bluffton Pandora Area meeting is Tuesday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m., outdoors at the community garden. This is located on Main Street (North Dixie Highway), just passed the village sign. 

Betsy DeFrancesco will be speaking on propagating perennials by cuttings of leaves, stems and roots. This is useful when your perennials have become overgrown or you wish to share some of your plants with family or friends.

Please note, you will want to bring a folding chair or something to sit on for this meeting.

Local students on Bluffton University spring dean’s list

Bluffton University has announced the dean’s list for undergraduate students for the spring 2019 term. Students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher are eligible for the dean’s list.

Lions scholarship winners

Bluffton Lions recognized six graduating high school seniors recently as their scholarship winners. This year's winners include Amanda Speicher, Madeline Burghaze and Kaitlyn Prater of Bluffton HS; Sarah Schutz and Peyton Traxler of Pandora-Gilboa HS; and Annalyse Dissinger, home schooler from Cory-Rawson school district.

T.R. Steiner: "Let clay be clay"

You might call him Maple Crest's artist in residence

Maple Crest Senior Living Village doesn’t have an official Artist in Residence, but T.R. Steiner is as close as it gets.

Maintenance supervisor for the 18-acre independent and assisted living community, Steiner credits his mechanical skills with the ability to craft prize-winning ceramic pieces. 

Like painting, clearing snow and doing general repairs, working in clay is also a process.  Having an engineering mentality is a plus in this art form, according to Steiner.
