Funeral service for Wava Taylor on Sept. 15

Wava J. Taylor, 89, died 4:05 a.m. Sept. 10, 2015, at Richland Manor, Bluffton.  Wava was born April 4,1926, in Bluffton to the late Roy and Ethel Geiger Lehman.

Wava was a cook and worked at area restaurants. 

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Deitrick of North Baltimore, three sons, Bob Deitrick, Ed (Linda) Deitrick, and Fred Deitrick all of Findlay, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Ortha Lehman of Alta Loma, CA.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lehman.

The Bluffton High School Super Fans are in shape for the football season. Each time the Pirates score someone becomes the "push up" guy. This photo is from last Friday. This week the Pirates are on the road facing Ft. Loramie for the first-time ever.

Retired Grove teacher has Saturday book signing at Book ReViews

Book ReViews, 123 S. Main St., Bluffton, hosts Beth Huffman, local author is a book signing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, according to Dr. Christina Walton, store manager.

Huffman is a retired English teacher from Columbus Grove. She will sign copies of her new book “Dance, Belle, Dance!”

It is the story of a girl, Belle, born with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Her inability to focus in the classroom creates many obstacles and her immaturity results in social miscues that her peers don’t understand.

800 celebrate 175th anniversary of establishment of first Mennonite Church in Bluffton-Pandora

Nearly 800 people gathered in a wheat field between Bluffton and Pandora, on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, to celebrate the establishment of the first Mennonite church in what came to be known as the Swiss Settlement.

The worshippers in that original log building grew in number, later dividing into four churches that flourish today: Ebenezer Mennonite and First Mennonite of Bluffton, Grace Mennonite and St. John Mennonite of Pandora.

Pandora UM free community meal Sept. 30

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hold a free community meal on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 5:30-7 p.m.. In the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. The meal this month is provided by the Rebecca Circle  and  the menu is ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, dessert and beverage.

Bluffton women knock off Mount Union at buzzer

BLUFFTON, Ohio -The Bluffton women’s soccer team finished off a thrilling victory behind a buzzer-beating goal from Brittany Huff (Union/Northmont) to earn a positive 3-2 result on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The win pushed the Beavers to 2-1 on the young season, while the Purple Raiders fell to 1-3.
