Pirates out slug Lima Central Catholic 10-5

LIMA - The visiting Bluffton softball team upset Lima Central Catholic 10-5 in a non-league contest Thursday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 6-12 with their second straight win. 

The Pirate girls scored one or two runs in six of the seven innings, plating at least once in every frame except the second.

Bluffton pushed across single runs in the first and seventh innings. The Pirate girls also scored twice in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth frames to extend the lead to 9-3.

LIMA - The visiting Bluffton tennis team nipped Lima Senior 3-2 Thursday evening.

Pirate senior Grant Klingler won his match at second singles 6-3, 6-0.

Pirate senior Thad Mittendorf also won handily at third singles by a 6-1, 6-0 count.

Bluffton sophomores Braeden Ackerman and Eli Wenger triumphed at second doubles 6-2, 6-3.

Pirate junior Luke Shadle lost at first singles after splitting the first two sets 3-6, 6-3. He then lost a 10-9 tiebreaker in lieu of playing a full thord set.

OTTAWA - The visiting Bluffton softball team whipped Ottawa-Glandorf 14-0 Wednesday evening in a non-league mismatch.

The Lady Pirates improved to 5-12 with the lopsided victory. 

The Pirate girls broke up a scoreless game with five runs in the top of the third frame.

Bluffton then put the Titans away with a nine-run outburst in the fifth inning.

Pirate hurler Hannah Davis pitched a two-hitter to earn her second win, and she also plated two runs with a single.

HARROD - The Bluffton boys track and field team finished third at the Allen East quadrangular meet Tuesday afternoon.

Columbus Grove took first in both the boys and girls standings. The Pirate girls ended up fourth.

Pirates Wyatt Lovell and Trey Boblitt tied for first in the high jump.

Lady Pirate Brianna Tabler took first in the pole vault, and teammate Sami Scoles captured the girls 1600-meter run.

Ada hires Lima Senior coach for boys' basketball

Vince Halliday coached Lima Senior girls' teams for the past 14 seasons

FROM ADA ICON - Ada Board of Education hired Vince Halliday as its new head boys' basketball coach in a special meeting last night. 

He replaces Jon Cook who was hired in October, 2020, as varsity boys' coach following the resignation of Drew White earlier in October. White coached at Ada for three seasons.

Halliday brings with him many years of basketball coaching experience. He has spent the past 14 seasons as the head coach of the girls' basketball program at Lima Senior, where he is a teacher. He leaves the Lady Spartans as the career leader in coaching wins.

Bluffton hurler Grace Myers earned her third vistory with a complete-game effort

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton defeated Leipsic 5-1 in a non-league softball contest Friday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 4-10 with the win against their future NWC opponent. Leipsic fell to 7-7 with the defeat. 

The Viking girls scored in the first inning on a solo home run by losing pitcher Jocelyn Hermiller. But Bluffton tied it with a score in the bottom of the third frame.
