Softball and baseball squads shut out by Allen East

BHS baseball will face Elmwood in tournament

Youthful Bluffton will play at Elmwood Wednesday, May 19 in Div. III first round sectional baseball action. The Pirates (0-21, 0-7 NWC) were seeded 13th out of 13 teams, while Elmwood was 11th in the Elida district drawing Sunday. The winner will visit top seed Coldwater (15-5, 6-1 MAC) May 21 at 5 p.m. in the second round.  Eastwood was seeded second, while Allen East (18-8, 4-3 NWC) was seeded third.

ADA - The Bluffton track and field team fared well at the annual 15-team Ada Invitational on a cool but sunny Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

Carey captured first in the girls meet with 112.33 points. Spencerville finished second with 102.5, and Van Wert came in third (99). Bluffton came in sixth out of 14 teams with 39.33 points.

The boys meet was won handily by Van Wert with 133 points. Arlington nosed out Bluffton for second, 76 to 75. Kenton and Allen East tied for fourth with 72 points.

LIMA - The Bluffton baseball team was shut out at former league foe Lima Central Catholic 11-0 Thursday evening.

The county rivalry loss dropped the Pirate record to 0-20 this spring. 

Bluffton's postponed league game Monday at home vs. local rival Allen East (16-7, 3-3 NWC) is rescheduled for Friday, May 7.

Bluffton (0-6 NWC) also plays a makeup league game at Columbus Grove (8-9, 4-3 NWC) Wednesday, May 12. CG edged Allen East 4-3 Thursday evening.

LIMA - The visiting Bluffton softball team upset Lima Central Catholic 10-5 in a non-league contest Thursday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 6-12 with their second straight win. 

The Pirate girls scored one or two runs in six of the seven innings, plating at least once in every frame except the second.

Bluffton pushed across single runs in the first and seventh innings. The Pirate girls also scored twice in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth frames to extend the lead to 9-3.

Sectional play begins May 13

LIMA - The visiting Bluffton tennis team nipped Lima Senior 3-2 Thursday evening.

Pirate senior Grant Klingler won his match at second singles 6-3, 6-0.

Pirate senior Thad Mittendorf also won handily at third singles by a 6-1, 6-0 count.

Bluffton sophomores Braeden Ackerman and Eli Wenger triumphed at second doubles 6-2, 6-3.

Pirate junior Luke Shadle lost at first singles after splitting the first two sets 3-6, 6-3. He then lost a 10-9 tiebreaker in lieu of playing a full thord set.

OTTAWA - The visiting Bluffton softball team whipped Ottawa-Glandorf 14-0 Wednesday evening in a non-league mismatch.

The Lady Pirates improved to 5-12 with the lopsided victory. 

The Pirate girls broke up a scoreless game with five runs in the top of the third frame.

Bluffton then put the Titans away with a nine-run outburst in the fifth inning.

Pirate hurler Hannah Davis pitched a two-hitter to earn her second win, and she also plated two runs with a single.
