Girls' soccer: BHS stays unbeaten in NWC

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton soundly defeated Delphos Jefferson 4-1 in Northwest Conference girls soccer action Monday night at Steinmetz Field.

The comeback win upped the Lady Pirate record to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0 in NWC play, good for a first-place tie. In their last five matches, the red-hot Pirate girls have posted four wins and one tie.

The Lady Wildcats fell to 1-5-1 and 0-2-1 in the NWC with the defeat.

Laykin Garmatter netted two goals to pace Bluffton to victory.

NORTH BALTIMORE - The visiting Bluffton volleyball team swept North Baltimore handily to register their fourth consecutive win in a non-league match Monday night. 

The Lady Pirate spike squad lifted its record to 6-2 with the convincing 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 victory.  

Kylie Stackhouse topped the Pirate girls with 17 kills and one block. Taylor Schwab knocked down 11 kills, and also contributed seven digs to go with a pair of aces.

ADA - In an exciting rollercoaster ride of a game, Bluffton got the last run in to edge Ada 48-46 in the finale to the Northwest Conference round robin Friday on an unseasonably cool night at War Memorial Stadium.

Bluffton rallied from a 10-point second half deficit with 20 unanswered points. But after an Ada touchdown cut the deficit to two points late, the Pirates had to dodge a last-second drive to hold on for the hard-hitting rivalry win.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton girls soccer team scored in the 69th minute to break a tie and defeat visiting Riverdale 2-1 Saturday night at Steinmetz Field.

Their second straight victory lifted the Lady Pirate record to 3-2-1.

Laykin Garmatter scored the game's first goal in the 17th minute on an assist from Lauren Rhodes to put Bluffton in front, 1-0. 

But Riverdale's Lexi Miller tied it up a minute later with a goal.

SPENCERVILLE - The Bluffton boys cross country team finished an impressive third out of 15 teams at the Spencerville Invitational Saturday.

Shawnee won the boys black division race team title with 66 points, followed by Ottawa-Glandorf (115) and Bluffton (133).

Pirate sophomore Erik Nygaard finished a strong sixth in the 160-runner field with a time of 17:42.2 to lead Bluffton.

Sophomore Sam Derstine came in 15th in 18:21.5. Senior Elijah Conley ended up 25th in 18:55.4, and classmate Brandon Good was 32nd overall in 19:25.4.

Soccer: Bluffton ties highly-ranked DI Perrysburg

 PERRYSBURG - The visiting Bluffton boys soccer team and highly-ranked Div. I foe Perrysburg battled to a 2-2 tie Thursday night. 

The Pirate record is now 4-0-1. Perrysburg (2-3-2) was ranked sixth in the first Div. I NWOSSCA regional poll last week.    

Bluffton's Collin Oglesbee got the Pirates on the scoreboard first with a goal in the eighth minute via an assist from Jonathan Schriner. 

Perrysburg knotted it 1-1 four minutes later on a penalty kick goal by Gabe Pawlicki.
