Three McDonald's holiday tournaments

If you like basketball this is your weekend. It's a McDonald's Holiday Tournament Basketball weekend in Bluffton involving 12 games.

Two tournaments – men’s and women’s – take place at Bluffton University and a high school boys’ tournament is at Bluffton HS. Here’s the schedules:

At Sommer Center on the Bluffton Unversity campus

Noon – Wilmington vs. Wheaton
5 p.m. – Waynesburg vs. Bluffton

Girls' basketball: Bluffton 63 - Kenton 46

Alivia Koenig and Averey Rumer scored 16 and Libvby Schaadt 15 at Bluffton girls' won its fourth game in a row, beating Western Buckeye League Kenton 63-46 on Dec. 22.

Here's how they did it: Trio of Pirates pave way for win

Three Pirates combined for 63 points in a 75-67 road triumph over Paulding Friday evening.  Luke Denecker scored 22, Mason Soper added 21 and Jared Piercefield had 20 as the trio led BHS to victory.  The Pirates improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Northwest Conference play.  

Keys to the Game

Denecker scored 8 first quarter points as Bluffton quickly grabbed an 18-12 lead after one quarter.  Luke hit two shots from downtown in the first quarter alone.

Boys' basketball: Pirates now 6-0 after win at Paulding

Three players score 20 or more points

Bluffton High School boys’ basketball team improved to 6-0 beating Paulding 75-67 on the road tonight in a Northwest Conference game.

Luke Denecker scored 22, Mason Soper 21 and Jared Piercefield 20 in the win. Bluffton’s next game is Friday, Dec. 28, in the McDonald’s holiday tournament.

Girls' bball: Koenig breaks career 3s record, Paulding falls

(BLUFFTON) – Alivia Koenig scored a game high 22 points as Bluffton won their third straight contest with a 58-43 defeat of Paulding and improved to 6-2 on the season. 

Koenig connected on seven three pointers in the romp and in doing so, passed Caity Matter for the Bluffton school record for all time career three pointers made.  Libby Schaadt added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the win.
