Victory sets up NWC 1st-place showdown with AE

LEIPSIC--The Bluffton High School football team used a 20-point third quarter to defeat Leipsic 34-14 in a Northwest Conference contest on a cool Friday night, September 30.

The Pirates stayed in a first-place tie with Allen East atop the NWC with their fourth consecutive win, improving to 4-0 in the league. Bluffton is now 5-2 overall.

BHS boys XC 4th at Kalida meet; Armstrong takes 1st

Pirate senior Landon Armstrong won the 144-runner boys race to lead the Bluffton High School boys cross country team to a strong fourth-place finish at the 25-team Kalida Invitational meet Saturday morning, October 1.

Armstrong crossed the finish line in a time of 15:56 to defeat 143 runners.

Senior teammate Erik Nygaard came in third at 16:03.4. Pirate senior Sam Derstine finished a very good 10th. 

The drop-off between the top three Pirate runners and the next four kept Bluffton from finishing higher as a team.

BHS boys soccer shut out Riverdale

The Bluffton High School boys soccer team scored early and made that goal stand up in a 1-0 win over visiting non-league rival Riverdale Saturday, October 1, at Steinmetz Field.

The Pirates improved to 7-4-1 overall with their sixth consecutive win. 

Riverdale fell to 3-7-2 with the loss.

Pirate Luke Shepherd scored the game's only goal eight minutes into the fray.

Pirate goalkeeper Kyle Basil made three saves in goal to post the shutout. The Falcon keeper was credited with four saves.

BHS girls soccer 2-1 win vs. Kalida

The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team scored two minutes apart and held on to beat Kalida 2-1 in a non-conference match Saturday, October 1.

The victory upped the Pirate record to 11-2 overall. Meanwhile, the Wildcats fell to 5-7 with the loss.

Pirate Allison Diller tallied the game's first goal in the 31st minute on an assist from Kendal Giesige. 

Sami Scoles then found the back of the net two minutes later on a Riley Eachus dish to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

BHS girls tennis 4-1 loss to Bryan

The Bluffton High School girls tennis team lost 4-1 to visiting powerhouse Bryan Saturday, October 1.

The Pirate season record dropped to 3-12 with the defeat. The Lady Bears earned their 20th win of the season with the victory.

Pirate junior Brooke Camper posted the lone Bluffton win at first singles.

Bluffton visits Van Wert (9-5) in a makeup match Monday, and then hosts LCC Tuesday to end the regular season.

BHS volleyball drops match to Lincolnview

The Bluffton High School volleyball team was swept at defending three-time league champion Lincolnview in a Northwest Conference match Thursday evening, September 29.

The 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 loss dropped the Bluffton record to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the NWC this season. The Lady Lancers improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in NWC action with the win as they stay in contention for a fourth straight league title.
