Public Library now includes book reviews on its website from Joanne Niswander

Bluffton resident Joanne Niswander is now an outreach patron of the Bluffton Public Library, according to Lauren Canaday, library public service coordinator.

In this role, she will review books and those reviews are posted on the library website.

“Joanne tell me that it's a wonderful project for her during the pandemic and inclement weather,” said Canaday.

The first month's reviews are now posted at https://blufftonpubliclibrary.org/joanne-reads.

Bluffton Diamond Sports spring registration underway

 Bluffton Diamond Sports is accepting registrations for the 2021 baseball and softball season. 

All information and sign-ups can take place on the Bluffton Diamond Sports website at www.bdsonline.org.

DIII winter championships canceled

The NCAA has announced that it will be canceling all of its Division III winter championships events for the 2020-21 academic year.

In its release, the NCAA cited low participation numbers for its member schools as the reason for the cancelation of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's ice hockey, and wrestling championships events.

Libby Frazier is the BHS January student of the month

Involved in many school activities and college plus classes

Bluffton High School junior, Libby Frazier, is the January BHS student of the month.

Libby is the junior class vice president, is a member of the National Honor Society, is lead alto sax in BHS jazz band, is a member of show choir, orchestra, bowling and dance. She is also a member of the girls’ varsity tennis team.

In her spare time she enjoys drawing and playing with her dog. Libby  currently is enrolled in college credit plus classes at Bluffton University and the University of Findlay.

I think I'll try the treadmill

One-year-old Eliya Huss chose to explore the treadmills at Bluffton Family Recreation while her dad, Evan, worked out on the bench press. BFR offers opportunities for exploration and exercise for persons of all ages.

Book review: News of the World

This is a novel that I will read again someday when I want to travel throughout 19th century Texas.

Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd is a 71-year-old vet of two wars who rides through the state of Texas reading the news of the world to groups of people for a dime apiece.

A newspaper printer who lost his press in the just finished War Between the States, he buys newspapers from both far away and local to Texas and people flock to his readings in order to hear the latest news. Many are illiterate.
