Remembering Charles Hilty

Our own talented small town newspaper editor who saw the world, yet returned here to retire

An earlier generation of residents appreciated him as our own talented small town newspaper editor making his an important voice in our village.

Family Hardware now Do It Best Family Hardware

Same products and services, now carrying Do It Best products

Family Hardware, 109 N. Main St., Bluffton, is switching to the Do It Best chain of businesses this week, according to Jim Basinger, store owner.

“We will offer the same products and services as always, and we will now carry Do It Best products,” he said. 

These include Do It Best Look brand of paints, and Best Garden brand, which includes garden tools, sprayers and supplies. 

The change-over will involve large assortment of new color paint charts in the Main Street store, in addition to several other product line changes.

Since March, teams of Bluffton University faculty and staff have been actively planning to welcome students back to campus for the fall 2020 semester while keeping the campus community as healthy as possible. 

Heroes work here

Bluffton has countless heroes. Here's a sign in front of Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., where many of those heroes work and volunteer.

Bluffton native Charles R. Hilty, 85, died on May 30, 2020, of complications of COVID-19. He had a  career as a newspaper editor and as a senior government administrator in both the legislative and executive branches of the federal government.
