Joan Fleming 1954-2020

Joan I. Fleming, 65, died on Sunday, Feb, 9, 2020, at 11:33 a.m. at her residence in Lima.

She was born on July 31, 1954, in Lima, to the late Lester and Evelyn (Wright) Fleming. 

She worked in Sales and was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Lima. 

Joan is survived by her sister, Martha (Kenneth) Fitzpatrick of Springfield, Va.; three brothers: Thomas (Sharon) Fleming of LaFayette, Daniel (Linda) Fleming of Bluffton and John (Debra) Fleming of Harrod; and a sister-in-law, Jane (Ken) Madden of Sidney.

Left the competition in the dust

Bluffton University sophomore Brandon James from Waynesfield is the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week. James took first place at the All-Ohio DIII Track & Field Championships Multi-Events at Denison University over the weekend. He finished with 4,292 points, nearly 100 more than his closest competitor. James won the long jump and the shot put with a second-place finish in the high jump en route to his All-Ohio Multi championship.

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton methodically took down local rival Allen East 62-41 to win a Northwest Conference boys basketball matchup Friday night.

The Pirates improved to 15-4 overall and 5-2 in the NWC with the win. Meanwhile, slumping AE fell to 5-14 and 0-7 in the NWC with the defeat.

Bluffton led 16-9 after the first period as senior Mason Soper poured in a dozen points. But AE stayed within 23-16 at intermission after an even, low-scoring second stanza.

Repair clinic Feb. 15 at library

Transition Bluffton program

Transition Bluffton, in cooperation with the Bluffton Public Library, will hold a free repair clinic on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the library’s lower level. 

Anyone is welcome to bring in small appliances, clothing, bicycles, electronics, etc. which need fixed in some way. Volunteers will be on hand to do basic repairs, troubleshooting and mending.

The purpose of this event is to help reduce landfill waste by repairing items instead of throwing them away.

February is a short month, but long on activities at the Bluffton Public Library. Here's a summary of events taking place for the remainder of the month.

Join us for a ​Free Repair Clinic​ on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. led by T​ransition Bluffton.​ Everyone is welcome. Bring in your small household appliances, electronics, clothes, bikes, etc., and skilled volunteers with Transition Bluffton will assist you with troubleshooting, fixing, or mending items, if able.
