Police urge residents to sign up for Nixle alerts

Bluffton police encourage Bluffton residents to sign up for Nixle safety alerts that are sent by the Bluffton police via text and e-mails.

The Icon uses these alerts to notify viewers of a range of announcements from road closings, potential storms, and other public safety information.

Hang out and read with therapy dogs on Saturday

Paws 2 Read with pet partners. Young readers are invited to the Bluffton Public Library on these Saturdays this summer to hang out and read with registered therapy dogs.

Timothy Michel was a 1973 BHS graduate

Timothy James Michel, 64, of Maysville, North Carolina and formerly of Bluffton died June 4, 2019, at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, North Carolina. 

Tim was born May 8, 1955, in Allen County, Ohio to the late James Michel and Wanda (Buettner) Heffner. He was married to June Downing Michel who survives in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Tim graduated from Bluffton High School in 1973. After graduation, he drove tractor-trailer. In 1983, he joined the U.S. Marines Corp. Tim retired from active duty on May 31, 2004, and then served in the reserves until Dec. 1, 2013.

For the 75th time

Kenneth Zimmerman (left) and Mike Falk get the honors of tagging trout number 1 for Sunday's Bluffton Sportsmen's Club trout derby. This year's event was moved from May due to the flooding of the Buckeye. The derby started in 1944 and this year it celebrates its 75th anniversary year.

Bluffton runner-up in NWC Bachman Award

Pirates won three NWC titles in 2018-19

Columbus Grove won the Northwest Conference 2018-19 “Don Bachman Award of Excellence." 

This is the fourth time Columbus Grove has accomplished this feat since the establishment of the award in 2005.  This award recognizes the school in the conference that exhibits the highest level of consistent excellence in conference-sponsored sports and scholastic bowl competition each school year.
