Thursday funeral service for Bluffton centennian Bertie Swank

Bertha "Bertie" Evadna Shrider Swank, 100, died Nov. 1, 2015, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. 

Bertie was born April 10, 1915, in Allen County on a farm near Lafayette, Ohio, to Charles and Louisa (Ramga) Shrider who preceded her in death.

On July 8, 1943, she married Frederick Andrew Swank who preceded her in death on April 5, 1978.

BLUFFTON, Ohio -  The Beavers came out ready to fight at their last conference match against the Franklin College Grizzlies on Sunday, Nov. 1. After the recognition of four seniors: outside hitter KENDRA PARMENTER from Grove City, Ohio; middle hitter JENNY BROWN from St. Marys, Ohio; student coach Marissa Krier; and student trainer Sierra Beckford, another conference battle took center stage.

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Despite holding a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, five turnovers were too much to overcome as the Bluffton University Beavers fell at Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, Oct. 31, by a score of 31-28. MSJ’s Shane Kelly hit a 21-yard field goal with just 0:08 remaining to secure the win. The Lions improved to 5-3 and 5-2 in HCAC play, while the Beavers sit at 4-4 and 3-3 in the Heartland.

Pirates beat Grove 10-7; finish regular season at 7-3

It’s never easy to win in certain venues and Clymer Stadium in Columbus Grove is a prime example.

Despite racking up yardage, first downs and generally outplaying the host Bulldogs for most of the game, Bluffton found themselves trailing late in the fourth quarter. 

That’s when Mitchell Ault scrambled from the six yard line and completed a pass to Joel Siefker that allowed BHS to win the game by a 10-7 score.
