BFR fund drive seeks $50,000 for indoor soccer turf replacement

After 18 years and who-knows-how-many soccer matches, Bluffton Family Recreation says that it’s time to replace the original turf on its indoor soccer field.

Bluffton Family Recreation, located at 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, and offers year-around sports programming.

The replacement won’t be cheap. According to Joseph Beagle, BFR director, a much-needed turf replacement will cost $50,000.

“Turfs like ours have a lifetime of from 9 to 12 years. Ours is nearly twice that old,” he said.

BFR holds "non-scary" Halloween party for tikes on Oct. 30

Bluffton Family Recreation will hold a Halloween party on Friday, Oct. 30, during its open play time, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

The party takes place from 11 a.m. to noon on the 30th. It is free to members and $1 per child for non-members.

“We’ll have games, candy and costume judging,” he said. Judging takes place at 11:40 a.m. BFR asks that no scary costumes be entered. Masks will be worn only during judging.

Registrations open for BFR winter men’s basketball league

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for a winter adult men’s basketball league, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

The league will start play on Tuesday, Nov. 3. All games start at 6:30 p.m. and are played at BFR, Bluffton.

Registration, including payment and team roster, is due by Friday, Oct. 23. Team members must be 18 or older by Nov. 3. The price per team is $225.

Jared Krout joins BFR as sports coordinator

Jared Krout recently joined Bluffton Family Recreation as sports coordinator, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

Krout is a 2006 graduate of Arlington High School and 2010 graduate of Hillsdale College. 

Following graduation, he served in several track and field coaching positions at Hillsdale. In 2014 he joined the Liberty-Benton High School track and field coaching staff. In 2015 he became the LB girls’ head coach, and the team won the state championship in its division.

BFR reminds members to keep their heart healthy

“A healthy heart is a happy heart.”

Bluffton Family Recreation wants to remind its members that walking is good for their health.

Fultz Sign Company recently installed the first of several messages on the BFR indoor track, reminding members that walking is good for you.

“The intention is to carry the good heart theme all the way around the track,” said Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

Members may contribute toward the goal of having the red “heart beat” continue around the track.

BFR taking registrations for 6th grade bball tip-off

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting teams for its inaugural sixth grade boys’ and girls’ tip-off tournament in December, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

Boys’ division play is Saturday, Dec. 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Girls’ division play is Sunday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. All games are at BFR, 216 Snider Road, Bluffton.

Registration fee per team is $200. Registration takes place now through Nov. 30. There is an eight-team limit in each division and three games are guaranteed during the tournaments.
