SBA extends incident period for February-March flooding

The SBA has extended the incident period to March 14 for its Ohio disaster declaration in response to additional damages that occurred several days following the severe storms and flooding that began on Feb. 27. The declaration covers Auglaize and Marion counties and the adjacent counties of Allen, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hardin, Logan, Mercer, Morrow, Shelby, Union, Van Wert and Wyandot in Ohio.

BFR announces ambitious fundraising goal for 2011

The BFR board of directors has set a goal of $25,000 for the 2011 annual campaign. According to the Director Carole Enneking, "This goal amount is a lofty one, but will allow us to make some very important upgrades to the facility."

Friends of the Library planning community garage sale in May

Want to hold a garage sale with plenty of shoppers and minimal expense? Want to help support your public library? Join the Friends of the Bluffton Public Library for the third annual Community Garage Sale on May 19, 20 and 21.

Maps highlighting individual sale locations, a list of addresses with sale descriptions, media coverage and classified advertising will be coordinated by the Friends. To appear on the map and list, participants must register by May 4.

March 2011 wetter than normal

March 2011 was wetter than normal for the third month of the year, weather-wise. Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, provided the following March weather summary to The Icon.

The total rain precipitation was 3.14 inches. The total snow precipitation was 3.8 inches. That compares to the normal March average precipitation of 2.71 inches.

The average March 2011 temperature was 37.8 degrees. The normal March average is 37.5 degrees. The average maximum temperature was 46.5 degrees; the average minimum was 29.1 degrees
