Community Picnic at Bluffton Presbyterian September 19

The community is invited to a community picnic provided by Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 N Main St., on Sunday, September 19 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. 

The outdoor event will take place on the church lawn. A picnic meal of hotdog or shredded chicken sandwich, chips, veggies, cookie and bottle of water will be available, while supplies last.

Letter to editor: Thank you to B&B Livestock Buyers group

The following letter was submitted by Marcia Phillips on behalf of Bluffton and Beaverdam 4-H Youth:

Thank you to all the generous donors who gave to the B&B Livestock Buyers group. Their generosity supported our local Bluffton and Beaverdam 4-H Youth who took livestock animal projects to the Allen County Fair. The following donors contributed this year:

Weekend Doctor: Youth Mental Health

It is the season of transition from summer to fall, and for many students from freedom to structure. Many students have a mix of excitement and dread for the upcoming school year. Even with this mixture, students commonly benefit from the increased structure school offers--it is built in socialization, cognitive exercise, physical activity, and provides opportunity for a routine sleep schedule. All students are encouraged to maintain these activities and structures outside of school year but oftentimes it dissipates slowly.

Ground-oriented Bearcats hand Pirates 1st loss

Previously-undefeated Bluffton was knocked off at Spencerville 35-14 in the Northwest Conference grid opener Friday night, September 10.

The league lidlifter defeat dropped the Bluffton record to 3-1 overall (0-1 NWC), while Spencerville improved to 2-2 (1-0 NWC) with the victory.

Bluffton fell behind 20-0 and could not recover. Spencerville amassed all of its offense running the ball, and controlled the clock without throwing a single pass.

The Bearcats took a 7-0 lead on a Nate Coulter one-yard touchdown run with 3:45 left in the first period, and never trailed.

University volleyball starts Erie tourney with loss

The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Erie, Penn., for a weekend tournament at Penn State-Behrend on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021. Baldwin Wallace took down the Beavers in straight sets before Bluffton dropped the host Lions in five sets.

Baldwin Wallace opened the match with a slim 25-22 victory in the lidlifter before a convincing 25-15 win in set two. The Yellow Jackets closed out the sweep wit a 25-20 win in the clincher.

Bluffton Icon viewers cast vote for staying home

With 45 out of 59 votes, most Bluffton Icon viewers (at least those who bother to take polls) preferred to stay home for our most recent holiday weekend.
