Suter's Produce strawberries ripening as we speak

Who else in the world would have a strawberry hotline other than Jerry and Nancy Suter?

You don’t need to call the hotline yet. Here’s a progress report on those red juicy fruits that will soon ripen in a field on Bixel Road between Bluffton and Pandora.

Jerry says that although earlier this month the ground temperature hit around 29 degrees he’s confident that strawberries will be at the red Suter Produce stands by early June.

A large contingency of 2017 BHS grads will attend Bowling Green State University this fall. Here they are after painting BG on the street in front of the high school on Wednesday. Spring clean-up for village residents runs through May 30

Spring clean-up for Village of Bluffton residents begins Friday, May 19.

Dumpsters will be located in the Spring Street recycling center, 455 N. Spring, from May 19 to May 30.

Items that may not be disposed of include hazardous material (motor oil, paint, ect.), vehicle batteries and tires.

Appliances that use Freon, such as refrigerators, will not be accepted unless the item is certified that the Freon has been legally removed and disposed of.

Registration now underway

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting registrations for two 3-on-3 tournaments in June.

A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is Saturday, June 10. It has three divisions including middle school, high school and adults. The tourney is double-elimination. Cost per team is $100.

A 3-on-3 soccer tournament has two sessions. The first is Saturday, June 24. The second is Saturday, July 29. It has two divisions including high school and adults. Cost per team is $80.

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hold a free Community Meal on Wednesday, May 31, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. The meal this month is provided by Rebecca Circle.  The menu will be ham, potatoes, green beans, dessert and beverage.

Candace Downing, daughter of Craig and Lynn Downing of Columbus Grove, was awarded this year's Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship. She will attend Wright State University school of nursing in the fall.

The Auxiliary established a one-time $500 scholarship for an area student entering into a health/medical field of study.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a senior at an area high school and ranked in the top one-third of the class.
