22 anglers snagged prizes in 80th Bluffton Trout Derby

$1,124 prize awarded in 50/50 raffle

Trout No. 1 lived to swim another day despite the best efforts of anglers of all experience levels at the May 4 Bluffton Trout Derby, the 80th event of its kind. In total 22 tagged trout were caught by anglers from Ada, Bellefontaine, Benton Ridge, Bluffton, Columbus, Columbus Grove, Delphos, Findlay, Mt. Cory, Ottawa, Pandora and Rawson.

The event hosted by the Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club kicked off the fishing season at Buckeye Lake, where members can fish without a state fishing license. Memberships are available at the Dough Hook, Kibbee's Craft Beer, Wine & Deli, TNT Firearms and Ted’s Market.

The winner of the 50/50 drawing, Cory Glick, took home the biggest prize of $1,125.00. Prizes in the $1 raffle were two beef quarters, winners Dan Schaller and Diane Lovjoy; $200, Jean Rule; $100, Ron Koontz; $75, Betty Dicke; $50, Tim Tussing; and $25, Raquel Gonzales. Mike Ellerbrock won the gun raffle.

Learn about dahlias at Garden Club meeting

The Gardeners of the Bluffton Pandora Area are hosting a May 7 program on dahlias with Linda Finsel, a Hancock County Master Gardener volunteer. She will be presenting information on dahlias: the different types and how to plant, grow, harvest and store.

4 Guys and a Gal singing group presents finale concert

"Harmonious Farewell"

Get ready for a night of music, as the vocal ensemble "4 Guys and a Gal" from Bluffton High School prepares to take their final bow in a 7:00 p.m. concert on May 18 on the Bluffton Middle School stage. 

Join five students for an unforgettable evening as they showcases the culmination of their high school journey through a selection of songs that celebrate friendship, love and the joy of music. Their repertoire includes timeless classics, barbershop, do-wop and sacred hymns.

Spring Bird Migration Hike at the Quarry Farm

The Quarry Farm nature preserve, Township Rd 7-L, Pandora, will hold a bird watching hike at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8.
