Mid-1950s trout derby

Bluffton's 77th trout derby is May 2. Here's glance at a much earlier derby. We're guessing it's the early to mid-1950s. We base that upon the boy on the bottom left – thinking that's David Little (1959 BHS grad).

Of course, that's Arden Baker standing at the microphone and by the looks of things the happy person next to him, who we do not know, appears to be hold a very large pickerel, which was stocked in the quarry during this era.

This photo was taken by Paul Diller and is from the Jim Diller collection.

Spring hydrant flushing this week

The village will conduct its spring flushing of Bluffton fire hydrants this week, according to Bryan Lloyd, assistant village administrator.

This may cause low water pressure in neighbors while the draining of hydrants take place. It may also cause discoloration of water.

Here are some fun songs about dessert (and other things)! Do you have a favorite song featuring sweets? Let the Icon know in the comments!

Forgotten Bluffton: The origin of the BHS school crest

It was created 55 school years ago

You’ve viewed at the Bluffton High School crest, but did you ever wonder how it came into existence?

Here’s the answer.

In the 1964-65 school year Beaverdam’s school district was annexed into the Bluffton school district.

School crests became popular in the mid-1960s, and the development of a Bluffton High School crest made sense, especially as a way to integrate the two school systems.
